Data, information, knowledge and wisdom: The dictionary meaning of data is data. In general, data refers to the value of something or a set of values. In one word, data is the value of something called data. So, data is the smallest unit of information. Data can be one or more letters, symbols or numbers. That is, any meaningful letter, word, number, date, combination of letter/word with number, symbol, signal etc. data or information like- or, no, Srirup, Palash, 1000, 20/11/1974, ID-100 etc. .
Information
The meaningful form of data is information. That is, information is data arranged in a systematic manner in a context that is easy to understand, meaningful, effective and usable. In engineering terms, any information or news is called information. In other words, the result obtained by processing any data or data is called as information.
Data + observations + meaning = data
Information is obtained by processing data. So we can say, Information = (Data), since information is obtained by processing data. For example, 20111974 is a data. It is information if it is put into a particular context. For example –
(i) If it discloses the account number of a bank, it means the account number of a particular person.
(ii) English date can be expressed in 20/11/1974 format. Then the money stood on November 20, 1974.
Characteristics of information:
Accuracy: Information must be correct. Correct and desired results can never be obtained or correct decisions can be taken based on wrong information.
Simplicity: Simplicity of information is very important because executives or managers use information in the decision making process. Information of a complex nature is acceptable as it is not easily understood.
Timeliness: Consistency between information and time is very important. Information used in the decision-making process becomes ineffective if it is not timely.
Relevance: Data and information must be information directly or indirectly related to the purpose of the system. Irrelevant data and information increase system complexity.
Completeness: Information must be checked for completeness and corrected as necessary before being used in the decision-making process.
Conciseness: Information should be as short as possible.
Relevance: There can be no inconsistency in the information. Data inconsistency affects the output of the system.
Security: Who can use any information in the organization is ensured through information security.
Knowledge: Appropriate collection of usable information on a subject is called knowledge. That is, through experience and education, knowledge is the special skill and skill gained by memorizing the information of a subject theoretically and practically. Simply put, knowledge is what we know. Knowledge contains people's beliefs and hopes. The brain uses information and data to create knowledge.
Again, understanding the truth is knowledge. Knowledge can be explained in two parts
(i) Explicit or detailed knowledge: Knowledge that can be easily explained and stored by computer or any other means is called explicit or detailed knowledge.
(ii) Tacit Knowledge: The knowledge that cannot be compiled anywhere, acquired through long experience, is called tacit knowledge. Tacit knowledge represents important information of an organization.
Definition of wisdom:
Knowing how to do the right thing correctly is wisdom. That is, wisdom is gained only if knowledge can be internalized and used through experience. Wisdom is the highest level of the knowledge pyramid. Wisdom is the analytical process. Wisdom is an entirely human affair that requires soul and mind.
