Privacy of Computer Information
Privacy of information: The privacy of information is that the information sent to the recipient can be fully accessed only by the recipient, no other person can access it. For example, a buyer's payment information cannot be accessed by anyone other than an authorized buyer. In the Internet, data is encrypted and sent over the network using various encryption technologies, so that even if an illegal person gets access to the data, they cannot read, understand and change it due to complex algorithms.
Introduction to Computer Data Security Tools: It is very important to know the difference between data security and integrity. When we talk about data security, we mean keeping it safe from anything harmful. Possible hazards are as follows:
(i) Natural calamities, eg fire, flood:
(ii) data may be damaged or lost due to errors;
(iii) theft of data through hacking;
(iv) theft of disks or other computer hardware;
Data security relates to measures taken to avoid any loss of data from these hazards. Data purity is about keeping it 'correct'. It is important to keep data updated and accurate in computer systems. We can check the purity of data by both verification and validation methods. Back-up copies: Back-up copies are kept so that data can be recovered in case of theft, loss or damage. Backup copies should always be stored away from the computer in a secure, airtight container. As a result, even if data is lost due to natural disasters such as fire or flood, the back-up copy will be safe. It is necessary to make regular back-up copies of data. It is impossible to restore the data to its original state without creating a back-up copy. It is natural to back up user data files at the end of each day and at least once a week when backups are made over the network. This is because user data network programs change frequently and backing everything up can take a lot of time. Password Policy. Establishing the confidentiality and trustworthiness of data exchange is of utmost importance. Various methods are used for security in data transactions. Some of the notable methods are:
1. Access Control: Access control is a variety of methods used to control unauthorized access. For example --
(a) ID card or key system
b) Password or ID number
c) Signed document
d) Biometric method etc.
Nowadays various types of keys, tokens or plastic cards are used for access control. Access control can be done using two types of encryption keys, viz.
* Secret Key Encryption and
* Public Key Encryption
Many cards now employ sophisticated access control using microprocessors. Access control is also being done using computer system passwords. For example, PIN (Personal Information Number) is used to use bank cash cards. Signed documents are used for access control in special cases. Digital signatures are used to sign documents. Digital envelope method is used for access control on large documents. Biometric access control method is an interesting method. Biometric systems include fingerprint scanning, voice recognition, and retina-based user identification.
Cautions on using passwords:
(i) Password must be alpha numeric.
(ii) Where passwords are not discussed.
(iii) Not writing passwords anywhere.
(v) Not sharing passwords.
(iv) not to disclose password by email or telephone.
(vi) Log-off computer carefully.
Physical Security System: Physical security is the protection of data by blocking access to the computer. This is usually done by locking and controlling the computer room. The room can be entered using a special keypad lock on the door, a code number must be entered to open the lock. Some systems use a magnetic stripe keycard, which is inserted through a magnetic stripe reader on the side of the door before the lock is opened.
