Health hazards in computer operation
Dizziness
In the age of information technology, most of the work is done using computers. While working with the computer many times continuously You have to sit and work in the same posture. Some parts of the body have to be operated in the same posture while working on the computer. As a result, the user may experience various problems. In medicine, this type of problem is called 'repetitive strain injury. People who spend a lot of time typing or are busy gathering information on the Internet or any other work can get this disease. Currently, this disease is more common among students or children aged 12 to 25 years. Different types of diseases can occur in different parts of the body, especially hands, neck, eyes, head etc. This problem can be avoided by arranging the seats of various equipment and users including computers in the correct manner.
Safe health and do's in computer operation:
Reasons and ways to solve some physical problems related to computer use are discussed--
Stress: Stress caused by computer use is one of the major causes of work-related illness. Some people feel stressed just thinking about working on a computer. A recent study asked 200 people who use computers how unbearable computer stress is compared to other stressful situations. 68% of the survey said visiting relatives was less stressful than crashing the computer and a third said it was better to sit like a child.
Some of how ICT systems can put pressure on workers are described below:
(i) Many people are afraid of computers and fear that if they don't master the new ICT quickly, they will be left behind. Which is the case with me.
(ii) ICT systems deliver information instantly to any location. Work from anywhere is possible through mobile phones, pagers, portable computers and the Internet. This means that some people find it virtually impossible to forget about work and relax.
(iii) The amount of information generated by ICT systems is often so large that it is not easily accessible. As a result, employees feel stressed due to not mastering the information.
(iv) Monitoring of employees using ICT systems may cause stress.
Repetitive Strain Injury: Repeating the same physical activity over and over again causes Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI). A regular computer user has to press the keyboard repeatedly and hold and move the mouse for long periods, which causes damage to the hands, arms and shoulders.
More common symptoms of RSI:
(i) Stiffness or chronic pain in arms, neck or shoulders.
(ii) Numbness or tremors in arms and hands.
iii) Loss of hand strength.
RSI can be prevented or at least reduced by using specially designed furniture, sitting in the correct position and learning to type correctly. By mastering the correct typing technique, if you do the following:
(i) The hinge should not rest on anything while typing.
(ii) The wrist should not be bent sideways, up or down.
(iii) Instead of moving the hand by keeping the wrist in the same position, the fingers should move.
Extremely low frequency (ELF) radiation: In daily life, we are involved with ELF radiation. This is not only from electricity and computer monitors but also from sunlight, fire and the Earth's own magnetic field. ELF radiation is increasing and it can cause health problems for someone.
Eye strain: Staying in front of the computer screen for a long time causes eye strain. Many computer users use dim lighting to get better screen contrast, but this makes it difficult to read documents on a desk. A little light on the desktop can help. Computer use does not cause permanent eye problems but inadequate lighting, poor work practices and unplanned workspace design can cause temporary eye strain.
Extremely Low-Frequency Radiation: Every day we are exposed to extremely low-frequency radiation from the Earth's magnetic field, and electricity at home and at work. Computer monitors are also a source of ELF. Prolonged computer work during pregnancy can increase the risk of miscarriage. step from the sun
Pain in hands, elbows and wrists
(i) Prolonged typing work without following proper rules.
(ii) placing the keyboard too far away or too low or too high, aside or operating from one side rather than directly in front of the user;
(iii) Working with weight on elbows, wrist not in proper position i.e. up down or sideways.
(iv) Excessive use of keyboard, mouse or calculator etc.
Remedy:-
(i) The middle part of the keyboard should be at the height along the elbows, it provides relief from elbow pain.
(ii) The back of the keyboard should be tilted 10 degrees so that the wrists are parallel.
(iii) Not using keyboards with hard keys or typing incessantly on the computer.
(iv) Do not work by pressing the base of the palm or placing the hand on the edge or corner of the table.
Neck, back, waist and shoulder pain: The user's seat is away from the computer, the mouse is further away from the keyboard, leaning forward, tilting the head or leaning back often causes neck, back, waist and shoulder pain. maybe Working with documents or looking down or side to side repeatedly while typing can cause pain.
Headache: If the size of the monitor is too small, if the contrast of the monitor is low or the refresh rate is low, and if the user works on the computer too close to the user, then the headache occurs. Sometimes the light of the room or the monitor is too low or too high can cause eye pain or any other problem. Font size too small can cause eye problems while working.
Pain in Knees, Ankles and Feet: Not being able to place the system unit or CPU under the desk and sitting for long periods can cause pain in the knees, ankles and feet.
