Computer Crime
Many businesses are now so dependent on the data stored in their computer systems that if the data is lost or damaged, it becomes difficult to operate normally. Data is usually damaged or lost due to human error. Sometimes data is intentionally damaged or stolen. It is important to take steps to protect against data theft, loss or damage. They must be sure that if this happens they will get their data back. The proliferation of Information Communications Technology or ICT is increasing the misuse of stored data. Data stored in computers is often easier to misuse than paper-based systems.
(i) Can be changed without leaving the route.
(ii) Large amounts of data can be stored and searched quickly.
(iii) Data can be transferred instantly using e-mail and internet.
(vi) Programs may be designed to damage computer systems.
(vi) the program may be designed to damage computer systems; Examples of such programs are viruses and logic bombs.
(iv) Hacker can attack the communication system used to connect computer systems together. Some hackers create software, which can destroy computer programs and data usage.
Cybercrimes
By cybercrime we generally mean all the computer crimes that are committed in the cyber space i.e. the internet. With the development of computer and communication technology, the number of internet users is increasing day by day. And various crimes are being organized around the internet. These crimes are called cyber crimes. Again, cybercrime can be of different types. such as
(i) penetrate the security of any system from outside, so as to illegally use or destroy all resources of that system;
(ii) causing a system to refuse to provide its intended service;
(iii) Damage to the organization due to misuse of internet by the officers and employees of any organization etc.
Below are the names of some common cyber crimes or internet based crimes--
(i) Obtaining information of others through hacking.
(ii) entering the system from outside to illegally use or destroy any resources of the system;
(iii) modifying a system in such a way that the system refuses to provide its intended service;
(iv) sending offensive e-mail messages.
(v) creating and distributing computer viruses etc.
Currently, all the computer crimes that are widely discussed in the world can be divided into three categories:
a) Hacking and Computer Fraud
B) Copyright Piracy / Software Piracy
c) Computer Virus
Computer crimes
Types of computer crime are-
(i) Not allowing any user to use its own hardware, software, network resources, data, etc.
(ii) use, access and damage to hardware, software, network resources, information by unauthorized persons;
(iii) Creating various types of duplicate documents using computer scanners, graphics software and advanced laser printers.
(iv) unauthorized copying of any software or disclosure of any information by unauthorized persons;
(v) Stealing critical computer parts or stealing computers etc.
(vi) use, access, alteration and destruction of hardware, data and network resources by unauthorized persons;
(vii) Dissemination and disclosure of information by unspecified persons.
(viii) conspire to use or use computer or network resources to illegally obtain information or certain tangible assets;
