What is 6G Network ? How does it work?

Although 5G networks are currently being tested in a handful of countries across the world, some technology companies in some countries are already planning for the commence the next generation of 5G, the 6G network. But what exactly is the difference between this 6G network and this 5G network and 5G network, and how will this 6G network work? Let's take a look at the 6G network today, which either I or you may never get a chance to use in life.

But before you start the discussion, it is good to know that at the time of writing this post, the 6G network is nowhere in the world and nowhere even in the stage of proper testing. It is still uncertain whether this technology will be properly available at the consumer level in the next 20 years. So, if you are only interested in learning about what 6G network is and how it will work, then just keep reading this article. However, in November last year, China launched a terahertz capable 6G satellite in the sky, but that is only an experiment.

What is 6G network?

At the most basic level, 6G is definitely the next generation of technology in wireless communication, which will be available sometime in the future. As you can already imagine, with the help of 6G , there are plans to further enhance the existing cellular network infrastructure and bring more fast and reliable internet services. However, in order to know the details of how special 6G is, first of all you have to know in which aspects of 6G technology will be different from the current networks, i.e. 4G or 5G networks.

If fast and reliable internet is the only difference then why don't we call this new technology Just Faster 5G or Enhanced 5G or 5G+ ? This is because network speed is not the only matter in naming the generation of wireless networks. For each of these standards, hardware manufacturers need to consider a few more architectural levels.

The reason 6G is upgraded to 5G is that in order to work with 6G networks, manufacturers need to redesign their entire network architecture and the communication suite of their products. This is exactly the reason why 5G network has not been given just upgraded 4G or any such standard. Because, to provide 5G network, carriers have to use towers made with completely new technology. And this is why it is still possible to bring 5G network in some places of only a few countries.

The purpose of 6G network

At the moment no company can say for sure what the core features of the 6G network and what will be new, but telecom companies around the world are already speculating on what the new 6G network can bring. When it comes to bandwidth, the idea is that the 6G network will be able to provide data transfer speeds of around 95 gigabits per second. It is also expected that the 6G network will bring a lot of improvements in latency and network reliability.

Like the 5G network, the 6G network will be built with a focus on the "Internet of Things" ecosystem. Because, of course, for those of us who browse the internet and watch YouTube videos or Facebook , Vimeo video at home, the amount of bandwidth provided by the 4G network at the moment is suffiecient. A non-techies user like us will never notice the difference between the speeds of 5G and 6G networks without speed test. The difference between 5G and 6G network  can only be noticed when the number of Internet connected devices in an area is much higher than usual or the number of Internet users is much higher. And now at the rate at which the world's population is increasing , it may be another 10-15 years.

However, the capability of 6G can be seen in this situation, because in such a situation, the scalability of the network is much more important than the core bandwidth of the network. In this case, it is more significant to reduce the response time or latency than the amount of internet bandwidth to serve the users. And the main purpose of 6G network will be to increase internet bandwidth as well as improve latency and network reliability. This is why companies like A&T or Samsung are optimistic about the 6G network.

How does 6G work?

Honestly, none of us know how 6G will be made and how it will work. Because, of course, 6G is still just a plan. However, network engineers and researchers have been able to come up with some ideas on how 6G works. To put it bluntly for the average consumer, 6G will basically transmit data on ultra-high-frequency. In theory, 5G can go up to a maximum of 100 GHz, but no country has yet to go above 39 GHz for 5G networks. In the case of the 6G, researchers are speculating that they could move the frequency far beyond 100 GHz, and are even planning to move it to the terahertz range. However, the waves of 6G network will be very small and will not be able to travel far. As a result, there will be some immence challenges in this case.

Limitations

A typical 4G LTE network transceiver can transmit its cells up to a maximum of 10 miles. So if an operator wants their customers to get a stable 4G signal forever, they have to install 4G towers every 10 miles or less. If the operator wants to upgrade their network to 5G and provide the same service to the users, then they have to install one 5G transceiver every 1000 feet instead of 10 miles. Because, 5G wave can travel much less distance than 4G.

It is not impossible to do, but very difficult and expensive. This is why very few places in the world now have 5G signals. Now if you think of 6G , you can imagine that for a good signal, the transceivers have to be placed so close to each other that when it comes to cost, it becomes the next to impossible plan for any country. However, researchers are always trying to find a better solution to this problem and if any solution is found, it will be possible to take another step towards implementing the plan on 6G network very soon.

When will 6G be available?

According to a white paper published by Samsung, one of the most popular tech industries in the world, if all goes well, work on this project called ‘Define a 6G Vision’ may start this year. And according to Samsung, the work of 6G network may be completed in 2026. And then we can see the 6G supported products coming in the market. However, Samsung thinks that it will take a few more years for the 6G network to become available at the consumer level. Ordinary consumers can expect to use 6G network by 2030.

But before I start writing, I said that 6G may be a technology that you or I may never use in life. Yeah Al that sounds pretty crap to me, Looks like will be available at 6G consumer level by 2030
