Functions of DBMS
There are three main functions of DBMS
(i) Create database creation
(ii) Database Interrogation and
(iii) Database maintenance.
(i) Database creation and creation in database specifically involves structure of data and relationships among them and organization of data in database etc.
(ii) Database Interrogation: The process of retrieving information from a database through a question-and-answer format, but without making any changes to the information, is called file or database interrogation. With the help of the program it is possible to extract the required information from the database and prepare reports for the user. For example, the information related to the seat reservation of the plane or the amount of money in a specific account in the bank is known.
(iii) Database maintenance and modernization of database through data addition, correction, deletion of data etc. Database maintenance also includes security functions such as preventing unauthorized access to data, ensuring accuracy of data, etc.
